What is Semaglutide and tirzepatide?
Semaglutide (the formula of Ozempic) is a GLP-1 agonist, which mimics a hormone that your body already produces, which helps regulate appetite and blood sugar levels. Semaglutide slows movement of food through your stomach, makes you feel full for longer, helps your body regulate sugar production, and even impacts the brain to reduce cravings or "food noise".
Tirzepatide (the formula of Mounjaro) is a GLP-1 agonist as well, but also works on the GIP receptor. The dual-action allows Tirzepatide to be more effective in lowering blood sugar levels and promoting weight loss.
Wellspring Health provides a generic compound of the medications, manufactured by a licensed and reputable compound pharmacy.
are these medications approved for weight loss?
Both Semaglutide & Tirzepatide have been approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for chronic weight management in adults.
How are Semaglutide and Tirzepatide administered for weight loss?
Both Semaglutide and Tirzepatide are taken once weekly. These medications are injected into the subcutaneous tissue in the belly. The needles are small, and easy to self-inject.
is there anything else i need to lose weight, or just take the shots?
While awesome, these shots are not magic. You will lose weight, but only as long as you are taking the medication.
It will help you make a lifestyle change, and realize how much eating you really need.
However, just like any diet, surgery etc, if you go back to eating what you shouldn't - the weight will come back.
Are there any side effects of the medications?
These medications have effect on you stomach, so most side effects are gastrointestinal in nature.
Common possible side effects are nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, constipation and sulfur burps. Most people can correlate this to when not eating properly. However, we can prescribe medications to help alleviate the side effects as the need arises.
PRO TIP: We find it optimal to take the injection close to bedtime. This will help minimize the side effects, as you will not be very active or eating.
Are there different doses of the medications?
According to manufacturer recommendations, there are incremental dosage changes.
We change doses every 4 weeks, if needed. We do not want to shock your body.
Our goal is to remain on the lowest effective dose. So, if you are losing weight and feel good, let's stay on that dose. Taking more can lead to more side effects.
